BLACK BRITISH RESPONSE TO THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD

Shamaan Freeman-Powell reported live and produced a short film on the Black-British response to the death of George Floyd, which was described as a “visceral… powerful and direct package” which sparked great audience reaction and influenced the BBC coverage of the story. Shamaan filmed and edited this piece, which ran on the BBC News Channel all day, was picked up by the 6/10 o’clock news and the iPlayer, and also became the most watched on the front page of the website.

ILLEGAL RAVES AFTER £10K FINES INTRODUCED

Shamaan travelled across the country to find out why young people were still attending illegal gatherings, despite £10,000 fines being introduced. This film was commissioned for BBC Breakfast and the Radio 4s Today programme.

STUDENT'S RETURN TO CAMPUS AMID INCREASE IN CASES

Shamaan travelled to Sheffield for 'Freshers week' in the midst of a pandemic. Students in Scotland were told not to leave their dorms, whilst students in Sheffield partied for their 'last night of freedom'

An investigation into a car insurance firm accused of cancelling young drivers' insurance due to inaccuracies in a mandatory app. This story lead to calls for an investigation by the APPG on insurance, as resulted in an apology from Carrot insurance. It was also picked up by national papers, such as the Times and the Telegraph.

AFRONATION FESTIVAL REFUSES REFUNDS AMID DEATH THREATS FROM TICKETHOLDERS

An exclusive interview with the organiser of Afronation festival - who says he received death threats and racial abuse from ticketholders after refusing refunds. It comes amid the coronavirus pandemic, which lead to the cancellation of music events across the world.
